Top 10 FAQs About Oxygen Gas Bottles

What is “rent-free” and how does it benefit me?

Rent-free means you purchase the cylinder outright and only pay for the gas refills. This eliminates continuous rental charges, leading to potential long-term cost savings, especially if your usage is infrequent or irregular.

What are the typical applications of industrial grade oxygen?

Industrial grade oxygen is commonly used for oxy-fuel welding and cutting of metals, brazing and soldering, glassblowing, certain heat treatment processes, and as a reactant in some industrial and chemical processes.

Is industrial grade oxygen the same as medical grade oxygen?

No, industrial grade oxygen has a lower purity level compared to medical grade oxygen, which has strict regulations for impurities. Industrial grade is suitable for industrial processes but not for human respiration.

What cylinder sizes are available and which one is right for me?

Rent-free industrial oxygen bottles are commonly available in 2L, 9L, 20L, and 50L sizes. The best size depends on your usage frequency and volume requirements. Smaller cylinders are more portable, while larger ones offer a greater gas volume for extended use.

How do I handle and store industrial oxygen cylinders safely?

Safe handling includes using appropriate PPE (safety glasses, handling gloves, safety shoes), using cylinder trolleys for movement, securing cylinders upright to prevent falling, and storing them in a well-ventilated area away from heat sources and flammable materials. Oxygen cylinders should be stored separately from fuel gases and empty cylinders should be marked as such.

What type of regulator do I need for these cylinders? You will need a regulator specifically designed for oxygen cylinders. These typically have a CGA 540 connection in the UK. Ensure the regulator is compatible with the cylinder valve and is in good working condition. Browse our range here.

How do I know when my cylinder is empty and how do I get a refill? The cylinder pressure will decrease as the gas is used. Most suppliers offer a cylinder exchange program where you return your empty cylinder and purchase a full one.

Are there any hidden fees or contracts associated with rent-free cylinders? Generally, with rent-free cylinders, you only pay the upfront cost of the cylinder and the cost of refills.

What is the purity level of your industrial grade oxygen? Typically, industrial grade oxygen has a purity level of around 99.5%. While suitable for most industrial applications, specific processes might require higher purity levels. Always check the product specifications.
